Sweet dream
I reside in Shanghai for long term and travelled through many residential areas of Shanghai, like other international metropolises, Shanghai has always been attracting large batch enter of people, so the housing price has kept as high as that of London and ranked front in the world. Most families squeeze in small spaces to survive in Shanghai, their rooms are so small as to could only put one bed for rest, and they even need to share kitchen and toilet with the neighbors, even so, the high pressure of the city has always been squeezing them, I could not help thinking bout whether such struggle is meaningful? What are they struggling for? What’s the impetus that let us continue persist in the small space? The mattress is the most simple as well as most important fundamental survival goods to restore energy of a person in big city and comfort after a whole day’s work outside, we fall into asleep on the mattress and wake up on it, I wanted to use the mattress as carrier to manifest relationship between current city and people by putting it between the small area between the door and window to squeeze it and cause deformation, I recycled several mattresses in the old residential area, and searched small area space in the residential buildings as exit, and completed this work.
